Our story

From Croatia to Auckland

I grew up in Ravča, a little village near Vrgorac in Dalmatia, among stone houses, vineyards and kitchens that always smelt of something baking.

Before every feast day, the women in my family gathered around the kitchen table. They rolled the pastry, tied kroštule into bows and filled tray after tray with small cakes for everyone who called in. Nobody wrote the recipes down. You learnt them by watching, by helping and by tasting, and by being told, kindly, to roll it thinner.

Seven years ago my husband and I made Auckland our home, and our daughter was born here. The recipes came with us, carried the only way they ever have been: by heart.

Crolicious Corner was born from those family recipes, treasured traditions and a love of sharing Croatian cakes. Every box is baked the way it was at home: slowly, by hand and with a lot of pride.

The tradition

Croatian cakes for Christmas and every celebration

In Croatia, a celebration is measured in trays of small cakes. Before Christmas, Easter, a wedding or a christening, families bake for days, and every tray carries a little of everything: layered slices, crisp kroštule, soft shells and thick slices of walnut roll.

These recipes are rarely written down. They are handed on from baka to mum to daughter, one Christmas at a time. That is how Croatian baking has always been passed on, and it is how I bake in Auckland today: by hand, from scratch, with the same pride.

Questions, answered

How does the box work?

Choose a box of 20 or 40 pieces and fill it with any mix of cakes from the menu, or with just one kind. The order form shows how many pieces you still have to choose.

Do the cakes need to go in the fridge?

No. Every cake on the menu is made to keep at room temperature. Keep the box closed, somewhere cool and dry, and enjoy the cakes within [koliko dana] days.

What about allergies?

Each cake lists its allergens. My kitchen also uses [Što sve koristiš u kuhinji: pšenica, jaja, mlijeko, orasi…?], so traces are possible and I can’t promise any cake is allergen-free. If you have a serious allergy, please message me before you order.

How much notice do you need?

Please order at least [koliko dana unaprijed] days ahead. For Christmas and big occasions, the earlier the better.

Do you deliver?

Pickup is in West Harbour, West Auckland. [Dostava: da ili ne, koje područje, koliko košta]

How do I pay?

[Kako se plaća, npr. bankovna uplata kad potvrdiš narudžbu]

Can I change or cancel my order?

[Uvjeti otkazivanja, npr. besplatno do 3 dana prije]

Do you make breskvice, kiflice or other biscuits?

Not at the moment. The menu is cakes only, so everything keeps well without refrigeration.

Do you supply cafés or shops?

No. I bake for personal orders only, not for resale.
